ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK – Two people were found dead in Rocky Mountain National Park Friday afternoon, an official said in a news release.

Park rangers were notified of a suicidal person who was likely inside the park; that person’s car was eventually found near Upper Beaver Meadows Road, according to Kyle Patterson, spokeswoman for Rocky Mountain National Park.

While searching for the owners of the vehicle, rangers temporarily held traffic entering the park through the Beaver Meadows Entrance and Fall River Entrance on the east side of the park for about an hour, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Patterson said the suicidal person and another individual were found by park rangers. Both were dead.

An on-scene investigation was conducted, and the two individuals were taken to the Larimer County Coroner’s Office. Their cause and manner of death will be released once autopsies are completed.

The Estes Park Police Department, along with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Loveland Police Department assisted the rangers during the investigation, which is still ongoing.
