Man identified in Oct. 5 shooting in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS — The man who was shot and killed on the northeast side of Colorado Springs on Oct. 5 has been identified.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified him as 42-year-old Richard Melgoza. This death is being investigated as a homicide.

Around 11:10 a.m. on Oct. 5, Colorado Springs police received a call about a shooting in the 4600 block of Rusina Road. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Melgoza with a gunshot wound.

28-year-old Steven Walters is in custody and has been booked into the El Paso County Jail. He is facing a first-degree murder charge.
