COLORADO SPRINGS — Families looking to beat the heat have another option, as the YMCA reopened its pools at Wilson Ranch Park and Monument Valley Park on Friday.

The pools were shut down due to COVID-19, but reopened to families with some new guidelines.

The number of people allowed in pools areas is limited to help with social distancing. The pools also have to close every 30 minutes so lifeguards and staff can disinfect sun chairs, locker rooms, and play equipment.

"Everybody is just ready to go, and again just reminding the public that we have to abide by the social distancing guidelines, but we want to make sure it's as easy a process when they come in, and enjoyable. It needs to be enjoyable," said Theresa McDonough, CMO of YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region.

Patrons will have to exit the pool during the cleaning period, but don't have to leave. They can wait in line to go back in once cleaning is finished.

With the limited season, pool time is on a first-come, first-served basis.
