COLORADO SPRINGS — The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region cites financial concerns as the reason behind the permanent closure of the Garden Ranch Y on Montabello Drive.
All Ys closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and only five centers reopened to members on June 15, with the Garden Ranch Y being used for child care services only.
According to President and CEO Boyd A. Williams and YMCA Metro Board Chair Brian Risley, "since reopening, the Y has experienced a 70% decline in member visits and is averaging a 50% decrease in membership revenue."
After looking over options and conducting a market and feasibility study, it was decided the Garden Ranch Y would not reopen. This will allow resources to be focused "in a way that benefits the entire Pikes Peak Region."
Garden Ranch Y will continue to be used as a child care site through Dec. 31. Garden Ranch YMCA members will have their current membership rate locked in until December 31, 2025, as a thank you for being a loyal customer.
