USAFA to host funeral for fallen Green Beret

COLORADO SPRINGS — A funeral service will be held Saturday for Sgt. Maj. James G. "Ryan" Sartor, a Green Beret who was assigned to Fort Carson, at the U.S. Air Force Academy's Cadet Protestant Chapel.

Sartor died during combat operations in Faryab province, Afghanistan, July 13. The 40-year-old served with the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Carson.

The career soldier called Falcon home with his wife and children. He served as a company sergeant within his unit. The native of Teague, Texas served deployments in Iraq and twice in Afghanistan. He enlisted in 2001 and received more than 20 awards and decorations during his career. Sartor will posthumously receive a Purple Heart and Bronze Star, according to U.S. Army Special Operations spokesman Lt. Col. Loren Bymer.

Saturday's event is a full military honors funeral service starting at 3 p.m.
