CANON CITY — Canon City Police have arrested two men on multiple charges following a fight involving a pellet gun and a baseball bat.

According to Canon City Police (CCPD), officers responded to a report of an assault and a person with a gun in the 200 block of West Catlin Ave. just before noon on Monday.

Responding officers contacted two men and a woman in the area and learned that there had been a fight at a residence in the 200 block of Catlin. Another man and woman were still at the residence. CCPD said officers were told that the man at the residence had been beaten with an air rifle and a baseball bat.

When officers went to the residence and contacted the 24-year-old man, they requested immediate medical assistance as the man was injured and having difficulty breathing. CCPD said it was later determined the man had been shot with a pellet gun and the pellet had lodged in his heart.

The man who was shot with the pellet gun was taken to an area hospital and then flown to a Colorado Springs hospital. At this time, he is in critical but stable condition, according to CCPD.

Based on their investigation, officers arrested 21-year-old Lane Peeples and 20-year-old Cody Butcher.

CCPD said Peeples has been charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Menacing, Child Abuse, and Conspiracy.

Butcher has been charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Conspiracy.
