EL PASO COUNTY — A 16-year-old driver is dead after a rollover crash in eastern El Paso County. The State Patrol says the teen was driving north on McQueen Road Tuesday afternoon near Washington Road when the vehicle went off the side of the road, lost control and rolled.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. Troopers say the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle was also unbuckled but was not seriously injured. Troopers say neither speed nor drugs or alcohol are considered to be factors in the crash, though the official cause remains under investigation.

According to AAA deadly crashes involving teen drivers historically rise during this time of year or the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day which is considered the 100 Deadliest Days. Major factors in these crashes include: speeding, drinking and distracted driving.
