FREMONT COUNTY — One person is dead after a vehicle and bus collided Saturday afternoon near Canon City.

Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash at the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 9 just before 3 p.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, troopers determined that the driver of a Lincoln Navigator, who was later identified as 19-year-old Jerry Sun, was proceeding from a stop sign southbound on Highway 9. The vehicle was making a left turn onto eastbound Highway 50 when an International Bus, that was traveling westbound, collided with the Lincoln Navigator.

Sun later died at the hospital. Authorities say he was wearing a seatbelt. Two other passengers in the vehicle were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. They were both wearing their seatbelts.

69-year-old Herbert Tecklenburg was driving the bus at the time of the crash. He had a minor injury and was not taken to the hospital. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. Colorado State Patrol says alcohol and speed are not factors in the crash.
