Springs Police make arrest in domestic violence homicide

COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs Police have made an arrest in a homicide that occurred on the city's west side last week.

On Monday, March 9, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of W. Pikes Peak Ave. on a reported stabbing. They found an adult female with several life threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital.

CSPD said detectives conducted multiple interviews and ultimately obtained a warrant for the arrest of 24-year-old Ronald Rhoades for the charge of Attempted Murder in the second degree. Detectives determined that Rhoades was involved in a relationship withe the victim and this incident was an act of domestic violence.

Rhoades was taken into custody on Thursday, March 12 and remains in custody at the El Paso County Jail. That same day, the victim died at the hospital.

The El Paso County Coroner has completed the autopsy of the victim and has identified her as 36-year-old Elizabeth Reuse of Colorado Springs.

Police said Reuse's death is the 12th homicide in Colorado Springs in 2020. At this time last year, CSPD had investigated three homicides.
