COLORADO SPRINGS — Drivers should plan on icy roads Wednesday morning in most areas of southeast Colorado. Road crews on currently working around the clock, but continuing snow and cold temperatures add extra challenges to their task.

Crews in Colorado Springs hurried to put down liquid de-icing material before dark Tuesday. The forecast after the sun is down, is too cold for it to work well. "We start dropping into those single digit numbers, our chemical applications aren't going to be worth the return on investment,” said Colorado Springs Public Works, Operations Manager, Jack Ladley, “So we'll probably slow that down quite a bit."

They will start other ice fighting tactics like scraping with plow blades and spreading traction material like sand. Our efforts are going to be a little tough overnight,” said Ladley.

Street crews will work through the night and morning commute. “Anticipate that the roads aren’t going to be fantastic; they’ll be passable.” Ladley says drivers should plan on added time if they have to be on the roads Wednesday morning.
