Fresh snow at Vail Ski Resort

Our cover photo comes from my own personal photo album, which I took last week at Vail Ski Resort. Conditions were great then, and with more snow on the way, we should start to see more terrain open as we head into the start of 2021. Currently, the base depth at Vail is 31".

Thankfully for Vail and the rest of our state's ski areas, we do have some snow in the forecast over the next 7 days.

Christmas Day on the mountain will be a delightful. Fresh snow is not expected, but travel to and from the mountain will be a breeze, and the weather will be sunny and seasonably mild.

Saturday's forecast will turn more windy as the westerly flow increases over Colorado. A weak disturbance will push in by the evening, with several inches of snow possible through Sunday morning. Higher totals will be focused over the northern and central mountain ranges.

After the snow stops, Sunday afternoon will turn cold and windy. Highs on Sunday will only warm into the 10s and 20s.

The extended forecast is where things look to get pretty interesting. Several waves of snow will be possible from late Sunday night through Wednesday afternoon, and although it's early, mountain resorts could receive between 1 and 2 feet of fresh powder!

This will also mean hazardous driving conditions in and around the mountains early next week. Check ahead with https://www.cotrip.org/map.htm#/roadConditions for potential delays and closures before hitting the road.
