Snow, snow, and more snow! President's Day weekend was extremely cold and snowy, with most ski areas picking up a foot or two of snow.
The non-stop snowstorms have increased statewide snowpack to 91%, as of February 17th.
But this is a dual-edged sword. Great snow comes with avalanche danger this year. Sadly, one skier and two snowmobilers died this week from avalanches. This marks 11 deaths in Colorado this season.
As of Thursday afternoon, all avalanche zones remain at a considerable danger level (3 out of 5). Take caution in all backcountry zones and try to avoid slopes at a 30-degree angle or higher.
More snow is likely Friday and Saturday, with conditions clearing on Sunday. Most ski areas along I-70 and in the central and northern mountains will receive half a foot, give or take a few inches.
