COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs Police are investigating after two groups exchanged gunfire at an apartment complex.

Officers were called to the 4900 block of Copper Springs View, near South Murray and Academy, around 7:15 Thursday night after a report that multiple shots were fired by multiple people.

A CSPD spokesperson said while it is still early in the investigation, so far it appears that a car pulled into the parking lot at the apartment complex, eventually pulled up to a group of people in the parking lot, and shots were fired.

The group that had been standing in the parking lot ran. The people in the car tried to drive away but also ended up running from the scene.

While police were investigating they received word that two people arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds, accompanied by a third person. CSPD said their injuries are serious, but did not know their current condition.

CSPD also said no one not involved in the shooting was injured and there is no threat to the public.

Officers collected a large number of shell casings spread over a large area. Police expect to be on the scene for several hours collecting evidence.
