EL PASO COUNTY — Colorado's 4th Judicial District Attorneys Office has ruled the use of force on an El Paso County jail inmate who died in custody in January as legal, appropriate, and justified, according to a release from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office,

The sheriff's office said 44-year-old Brian Clark died in custody due to an altercation back in January. The altercation then turned violent, leading to Clark's death.

Four deputies at the jail were placed on leave.

Clark was housed in the medical section at the time and died despite immediate life-saving measures by deputies, medical staff and first responders.

At the time of the arrest, Clark was being held on a warrant for indecent exposure.
