OLD COLORADO CITY — City leaders and community members gathered Friday in Old Colorado City for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of renovations to Bancroft Park.
The work came about after an accidental fire in the bandstand in January of 2017.
The Colorado Springs Parks Department worked for nearly three years to create a new plaza to revitalize the park.
One of the major improvements at Bancroft are the new self-cleaning restrooms.
Mayor John Suthers said the renovation's completion reflects the spirit of the community.
"From the destruction grew a really fantastic community effort that has re-imagined and reinvigorated the heart of Old Colorado City," Mayor Suthers said.
The plaza has already hosted the annual farmers' market, and the Parks Department hopes to hold pop-up concerts in the near future.
