COLORADO SPRINGS — Get ready for diversions and delays near Garden of the Gods as road improvements will be impacting 30th St. on the west side of Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs Utilities is doing work in the area this week, in preparation for the 2C repaving on a portion of 30th next month.

All road work causes some issues, but this area comes with some extra challenges.

30th Street handles all of the tourist traffic going to Garden of the Gods, as well as through traffic for locals on the city's west side. It's a busy road with only one lane in each direction and because of the steep hillside, many stretches of the road have little to no shoulder.

The work starting now is the start of a series of projects happening on 30th St. Mesa Road and Garden of the Gods road that connect to 30th will also see work int he near future.

Some 2C paving is happening this year and some will happen next year in connection to a project that city engineering is handling.

Right now, utilities is taking 30th down to one shared lane for each direction.

The 2C paving in September will mostly happen overnight.
