A pilot of a fighter jet that crashed into the North Sea off the coast of northern England Monday has been identified as a recent graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

The academy announced Tuesday that 1st Lt. Kenneth "Kage" Allen died in the F-15C Eagle crash during a training mission.

He arrived at the 48th Fighter Wing in February of this year.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Lt. Allen, and mourn with his family and his fellow Reapers in the 493rd Fighter Squadron. The tremendous outpouring of love and support from our communities has been a ray of light in this time of darkness,” said Col Will Marshall, 48th Fighter Wing commander, in a release.

USAFA officials said Allen is survived by his wife and parents.
