COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — A quick response by Colorado Springs firefighters kept a suspicious mattress fire from causing serious damage to a downtown building. It started at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Arc Thrift Store Donation Station at the corner of South Nevada Ave and Vermijo Ave near the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum.

Lt. Aaron McConnellogue of Colorado Springs Fire Deptartment said the mattress fire spread to the outside of the building. Firefighters were on scene in a mere 19 seconds, quickly dousing both fires in water.

"They were already in the area so they were able to get that fire under control very quickly," McConnellogue said.

The mattress fire is being investigated for possible arson.

While the firefighters were on-scene, they were able to assist a Colorado Springs police officers during a disturbance with an unnamed individual across the street at the Arby's restaurant.
