PUEBLO — The Pueblo Police Department announced this week it is banning the use of carotid holds.

The department said the policy change is not a direct result of incidents nationwide, but came out of a review of policies.

"It’s the policies we review all the time see what we need to improve on or do different or better and you know policies are like anything else they evolve and change with time so that’s just what we did," said Sgt. Franklyn Ortega.

Pueblo PD said carotid holds are not commonly used in the department, with officers using them twice in the last 10 years.
