PUEBLO — Pueblo Cooperative Care is teaming up with a phone service to give out free phones to people in need.

The effort is part of the Lifeline Assistance Program, which is made possible by the Universal Service Fund from the US government.

Assurance Wireless will give you a free phone if you're part of assistance programs like food stamps, Medicaid, or SSI.

"I come across a lot of customers who don't have any type of communication with their children, with their families, their doctors, because you know a lot of cell phones are pretty expensive these days," said John Fernan, with the organizaiton.

If you want a free phone, the wireless group will be providing them Monday through Wednesday outside of Pueblo Cooperative Care. You can find out if you quality for a phone at that location as well.
