PUEBLO — Colorado State Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash on I-25 that left one man dead.
According to State Patrol, the crash happened just before 8 a.m. Sunday morning on southbound I-25, approximately three miles north of Pueblo
State Patrol said the crash involved a Kia Optima that was driven by 26-year-old Matthew Bernal of Pueblo.
The vehicle was headed southbound when it began to veer onto the median shoulder. It scraped the steel guard rail and the driver steered the vehicle back onto the roadway. State Patrol said the vehicle then went back across the roadway in the other direction and then off the roadway.
The vehicle overturned multiple times and the passenger, identified as 26-year-old Manuel Gallegos Padilla of Pueblo, was ejected. State Patrol said Padilla was not wearing at a seat belt at the time of the crash. He died at the scene.
State Patrol said Bernal was wearing a seat belt and was transported to Parkview Hospital with serious injuries.
Alcohol/drugs and speed are being investigated as potential casual factors in the crash, State Patrol said.
