Pueblo County to preserve historic documents

PUEBLO COUNTY — Pueblo County has received a big chunk of change to preserve its oldest paperwork, including some documents that date to before Colorado was a state.

The county was given $200,000 to digitize records.

An outside agency brought in by Pueblo County used machines to create digital archives of those documents.

"The most important thing is the preservation of these old historic books that date back to 1866 so this will ensure future generations will have access to these books," said recording supervisor Richard Scott Wright.

The archiving could be done as soon as next year.
