PUEBLO — The future of the Christopher Columbus memorial could be decided by Pueblo voters.

City Council members Mark Aliff and Lori Winner are leading an effort to get get a question about the statue on the November ballot.

Aliff said there will be a special meeting this coming Monday night to vote on whether the people should decide what happens to the statue.

"I think it is just very important that the community has a voice in this as a whole," Aliff said.

The special meeting will come after weeks of protests at the statue and the failure of a mediator to reach a resolution between both sides.
