PUEBLO — Saturday, the Pueblo Animal Shelter celebrated the fact that it is officially serving the community again.
The previous contractor, Paws for Life, gave up its license to operate the shelter last year after a state investigation uncovered several violations and mistreatment of animals.
As part of the celebration Saturday, the shelter held an open house with adoption specials, a staff meet and greet, and a pet nutrition dog and cat treat bar.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, the organization now running the shelter, is the largest nonprofit animal shelter in Southern Colorado.
