COLORADO SPRINGS — Ahead of the potential winter conditions forecast for this weekend, the Colorado Department of Transportation is preparing for winter driving conditions.

Plow trucks in the southern area of the state, including in Trinidad, will be working 12 hour shifts to keep the roads clear and safe.

In Pueblo and Colorado Springs, crews will be pre-treating roads. A full call out of snow crews is also planned.

CDOT is advising against travel through mountain passes, such as Kenosha Pass, which is expected to get hit hard.

"We get heavy winds in the area which causes ground blizzards and zero visibility," said Michelle Peulen, CDOT Communications Manager of the southeast area. "So, if you are heading that way this weekend watch for closures on CO Trip dot Org because with those winds, we do anticipate some closures in the area."

Snow crews will be putting in extra work to help keep those mountain areas open, but CDOT said, if you don't need to be on the road, stay home.
