COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs police have identified the man who was struck and killed while he was trying to cross Interstate 25 on Monday night.

Officers were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash on I-25, south of Fontanero St. around 7:30 Monday night.

According to police, 36-year-old Tony Barton of Security was one of four pedestrians trying to cross the interstate when he was hit and killed. He was pronounced dead on scene.

CSPD said Barton was struck by a Ford Econoline van traveling northbound on the Interstate.

Right now, neither speed nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash.

A second accident happened between two other vehicles who were distracted by the initial crash, according to CSPD.

This is the 24th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. There were 25 at this time last year.

This investigation is ongoing.
