COLORADO SPRINGS — After a delayed opening due to the Black Forest Fire in 2013, Pineries Open Space in northern El Paso County will open Saturday.
El Paso County officials said this open space includes 1,070 acres of scenic open space, a large trailhead, 8.5 miles of single-track trails and a restroom available for public use.
The Pineries Open Space was accepted by the county and the master plan for the area was completed in 2010. The area is located at 13201 Vollmer Road, just a little more than a half mile north of the intersection of Vollmer Road and Shoup Road.
The county described the Pineries Open Space as "gentle rolling terrain, grassland meadows, ponderosa pine forests, wetlands, and small ponds dotting the area."
