PUEBLO — The Pueblo Fire Department conducted a water rescue on the Arkansas River near Kayak Park in Pueblo Monday afternoon.

While News5 was wrapping up an interview with the PFD's water rescue training, a man and his dog became stuck on a rock after the dog chased a stick into the water.

Emergency crews were able to spring into action and save them both.

"Today was super fast," said Michel Huff, an Oklahoma resident who has saved by PFD. "I'm happy they came as fast as possible because this dog wanted to go after a stick. It could have been worse."

The department says the amount of calls for water rescues goes up when the river gets higher this time of year.

PFD asks that if you are going into the river that you wear a life vest.
