COLORADO SPRINGS — A special celebration took place Thursday at Peterson Air Force base for graduating seniors.

The 'Team Pete' recognition parade, along Peterson Boulevard, honored 70 graduating seniors and was organized by the 21st Force Support Squadron.

"It's cool to be a part of history," said Emma Scheitzach, a 2020 graduate of Sand Creek High School. "Even though it sucks that we didn't get to do all the fun senior events, I mean, we have this. And everyone's really supportive, so it's been kind of fun."

The golf cart parade, led by base security forces, along with family, administrators and base leadership, was part of an effort to give graduates a special memory in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Spending time with our friends. Spending time with our family. I know some graduations aren't allowing family members and extended family to visit, so it's really nice," added Philip Choate, a Class of 2020 graduating senior from Cheyenne Mountain High School.

The parade honored both high school and college graduates who have a family member working at Peterson Air Force base or Cheyenne Mountain Air Station.
