COLORADO SPRINGS — If you or someone you know owns a pet, and are struggling to help provide them with food or basic necessities, there's an organization that would like to help!

Saturday morning they will be on the northeast side of Colorado Springs distributing supplies to those who need them.

So, the pet food distribution is happening this morning at 10 a.m. at the Church of All Nations parking lot (6540 Templeton Rd.)

It'll accompany a human food distribution happening at that same place and same time. The non-profit Harley's Hope Foundation is behind the pet food pantry helping supply these meals for animals.

The foundation started 10 years ago after its founders lost their dog to cancer and set out to help cover the costs of other pet parents.
So, they teamed up with another nonprofit, Colorado Pet Pantry, to help distribute pet food on the northeast side of town.

Since April, they have provided more than 25,000 pounds of pet food to families in need. This is especially critical for seniors in the area who can't easily access or afford pet food, and who rely on pets as companions.

"Our entire goal as a charity is to keep pets and their people together," said Cynthia Bullocks, the co-founder of Harley's Hope Foundation.

"These are just crazy times we're living in and you know, we've talked to a lot of seniors over the last 9 months that we've been doing this and they were feeding their pets their own food because they were so afraid their pets would go hungry," she explained.

"We don't want pets to go hungry but we also don't want to see seniors going without their food. So, if you need the help, ask us," she emphasized.

These distributions will continue the third Saturday of each month (at the same place, same time).

Volunteers also help deliver food to El Paso, Pueblo and Teller Counties.

If you would like to help Harley's Hope Foundation, they could always use donations of:

  • Pet food
  • Blankets
  • New toys
  • Beds
  • Cash donations

Even though they mostly have cat and dog food, Harley's Hope Foundation also helps provide rabbit food, ferret food, bird seed, and bedding for hamsters and guinea pigs.

If you miss Saturday's event, not to worry! You can either call their office at 719-495-6083 or send an email to info@harleys-hopefoundation.org.

Their volunteers could arrange to add you to their delivery schedule and make sure you get the supplies you need.
