Penrose apple orchard brewing a new business

PENROSE — An apple orchard in Penrose wants to keep the area's apple tradition alive.

Fremont County recently approved having a limited number of wineries at farms, rural areas, and other locations in the county.

Jenkins Farms is taking advantage of this, with recently-approved commercial licenses to make apple wine, hard cider, and other drinks.

"We wanted to add sustainability to our farm," said owner Justine Jenkins. "We currently do a you pick and a cider mill with just regular apple juice and we wanted to add something, to have a little higher value added product to keep the little farms going."

The farm hopes to have tastings before Thanksgiving, and plans to have the wine on store shelves by early spring.
