COLORADO SPRINGS — A man connected to a possible road rage incident near Fort Carson early Wednesday morning has died after being shot by officers, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The department said officers saw two vehicles pull into the Safeway parking lot off Highway 115 and South Academy around 4:45 a.m. After one of the vehicles left, an officer was flagged down by the other driver and alerted the officer that they "were the victim of a road rage incident."

Officers responded to the area and police located the vehicle near Fort Carson's Gate 2 off O'Connell Boulevard when the man exited the car with a handgun. At least one shot was fired by involved officers. Police said 33-year-old Dean Trasente died at the scene.

CSPD said that the involved officers’ body-camera videos will be released in "approximately 4 weeks, once the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has completed their investigation and presented it to the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office."

The department said the two officers involved in the shooting were not injured and later identified them as Corporal Clinton Ford and Officer Ashley D’Amour. Ford has been with the department since April 21, 2014, and D’Amour has been employed with the department since July 10, 2017. Both officers were placed on administrative leave per department policy.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting.
