COLORADO SPRINGS — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting on the city's east side.

Just before 12 a.m. Sunday Colorado Springs police were conducting a traffic stop at Galley Road and Arrawanna St.

According to police, the officer approached the suspect vehicle, was walking back to the police cruiser, and was returning to the suspect vehicle when shots were fired.

The officer was shot and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It is unknown if the suspect was shot.

The Sheriff's Office says the driver drove away from the scene and later was involved in a traffic accident at Pikes Peak Avenue and Dunsmere Street. The driver then fled the scene on foot.

Authorities later found the vehicle and are still searching for the suspect.
