ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK — Rocky Mountain National Park Law Enforcement is investigating a murder-suicide in Rocky Mountain National Park that involved a Colorado Springs mother and her son.

Park rangers worked with the Estes Park Police Department, Larimer County Sheriff's Office, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the Loveland Police Department to find the bodies of 24-year-old Tristen Watson and 17-month-old Christopher Watson inside a car near Upper Beaver Meadows Road Friday.

The Larimer County Coroner confirmed the young mother shot the boy in the head before turning the gun on herself and taking her own life. The boy's death was ruled a homicide and the mother's death was ruled a suicide.

Park rangers had been searching for Watson after a report that she was likely in the park and was suicidal, an official said in a news release.

No further information on the incident is available at this time.
