COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs police are investigating an accident that left two people injured Saturday.

Around 12:45 a.m. officers were notified of a vehicle being driven erratically in the area of E. Platte Ave. and N. Murray Blvd. The vehicle was described as a white SUV.

When officers arrived in the area, they saw the vehicle northbound near E. Platte Ave. and Wooten Rd. The officers saw the driver weaving as the vehicle continued north.

They attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the vehicle fled, eventually driving westbound on Galley Rd. at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue the vehicle.

A short time later, the vehicle was involved in a three car crash at the intersection of Galley Rd. and N. Academy Blvd.

The driver of the white SUV was ejected from the vehicle and transported him to a nearby hospital.

Officers identified the driver as 38-year-old Maes Archuleta. Authorities say he was trying to elude officers by driving westbound on Galley Rd. at a high rate of speed when he ran into the rear of another white SUV which was stopped at the red light at Galley Rd. and N. Academy Blvd.

The other white SUV was forced into the rear of the vehicle stopped in front of it, a mini-van occupied by a family of five.

Fortunately no one else was seriously injured, although an occupant of the second white SUV was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for her injuries.

Archuleta is in custody for DUI among other traffic charges.
