Multiple agencies respond to grass fire in Otero County

OTERO COUNTY — Around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, the Otero County Sheriff's Office reported a grass and weed fire.

The blaze was on Highway 350 near mile marker 44.

The Sheriff's Office said they were responding along with fire crews from "numerous agencies."

They Sheriff's Office also said the fire was likely started by a vehicle.

A short time after initially reporting the fire, the Sheriff's Office said the driver that caused the fire was stopped on Highway 160 is being charged.

Fire crews are mopping up hot spots of the fire, which the Sheriff's Office estimated at around 20 acres.
