COLORADO SPRINGS — Some local veterans and active duty military received help with daily meals.

Care and Share teamed up with Mount Carmel Veterans Service Center and Food Rescue to hand out food Friday.

Workers at the center said the line of cars shows how shutdowns and closures related to COVID-19 have affected military families.

"It's important to us as a Veteran serving organization in this community to make sure that we're filling gaps, and right now food is a need," said Mount Carmel CEO Robert McLaughlin.

Volunteers showed up ready to serve more than 200 meals.

Mount Carmel also provides counseling and other services for veterans.
