COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers helped ring in the summer Friday afternoon at Pioneers Museum.

Great Outdoors Colorado's Generation Wild campaign organized the gesture, symbolizing the final bell of the school year that students didn't get to hear this year due to COVID-19-related school closures.

It was also meant to celebrate and thank health care workers and first responders.

Communities across Colorado held similar events from 3:00 - 3:01 p.m. Friday.

Local children and others who attended the event also got a chance to ring the bell.
