MANITOU SPRINGS — Manitou Springs has a new piece of art to show along with the rest of its cultural amenities. This week, crews installed a 10-foot sculpture of an eagle.
An Urban Renewal spokesperson said the idea is to make their town more attractive, pedestrian-friendly, and symbolize Manitou with art.
The artist who carved the sculpture used the same red limestone that the town is built on.
"Manitou is a free-spirited sort of area, lots of culture. It's a fun town. It never takes itself too seriously and so I've been very honored, very honored to be chosen for this project," John Kessler said.
The sculpture weighs up to 800 pounds and is the first of five new art pieces going up along Manitou Avenue over the next few years.
