CANON CITY — Around 6 a.m. Monday morning the Canon City Area Fire Protection District (CCAFPD) responded to a structure fire in the 2300 block of E Main Street.

When they arrived, firefighters found a duplex with fire in one unit. They were able to quickly bring it under control.

The CCAFPD said firefighters found a deceased man inside the duplex.

Investigators from the Canon City Area Fire Protection District, the Canon City Police Department, and the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

No firefighters were injured and the fire was contained to one apartment, although both apartments in the duplex sustained smoke damage, the CCAFPD said.

The name of the fire victim is not being released at this time.
