Man dies of injuries one week after being shot in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS — A man who was taken to the hospital in serious condition on Oct. 6 after being shot in a parking lot in downtown Colorado Springs has died as a result of his injuries.

Authorities responded just before 9 p.m. that Tuesday to the McDonald's near Wahsatch Avenue and East Bijou Street. Police said "due to the nature" of the incident, the Colorado Springs Police Department's Violent Crimes Homicide/Assault Unit took over the investigation.

The department identified the man as 57-year-old Todd Barnes, who died one week later on Oct. 13 as a result of his injuries.

Barnes' death is the 31st homicide investigation in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, CSPD investigated 18 homicides.
