COLORADO SPRINGS — A man who climbed a transmission tower on the east side of Colorado Springs Monday evening came down safely just after 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The department said officers arrived to the tower near Academy Boulevard and Galley Road around 4:20 p.m. where the man was threatening to harm himself. The tower was powered off by Colorado Springs Utilities to make sure he did not electrocute himself.

A large crowd has assembled in the area while officers where attempted to communicate with the man, which "made his behavior more erratic." Police said this was interrupting efforts to bring him safely down.

Officers asked people to move away from the area and stop yelling at the man. Two teenagers were arrested after this.

Around 9 p.m., a News5 crew on scene reported that authorities had deployed a bucket lift to try to bring the man down safely.
