Police in Pueblo are advising everyone to avoid the area of W. 4th Street near the intersections of Grand Ave. and Court St. due to a major water main break.

A crew from Pueblo Water was able to get control of the water flow within 45 minutes of the first report just after noon Saturday. There is extensive damage to the pavement on that stretch of road.

Police blocked off the street due to high water, as well as all the debris from the break and damage to the road.
The fire department is also monitoring the area for a gas leak associated with the water main break. A restaurant in the area is off limits for now until everything is secure. It may reopen Sunday.

According to Pueblo Water, all of the businesses in the area will be without water service until later this evening at the earliest. The impacted stretch of W. 4th Street will remain closed through the weekend and maybe into the work week as extensive repairs are required above and below ground.

Late Saturday night, Pueblo Water customers in the affected area were advised to seek alternate water sources out of an abundance of caution against any contamination. No contamination has been discovered. Testing of samples will be back late Sunday. In the meantime, crews are flushing hydrants and making repairs to the impacted road.
