Longtime KKTV anchor Don Ward passes away

COLORADO SPRINGS — Monday night, KKTV in Colorado Springs announced on Facebook that longtime anchor Don Ward had died.

The post from KKTV said Ward died while hiking and it is believed he had a heart attack.

The Park County Coroner's Office issued a release Monday night stating Ward, 55, died near the summit of Mt. Cameron on Monday. Park County Search and Rescue and the Park County Coroners Office recovered him from the mountain Monday evening.

The Coroner's Office said an autopsy is being scheduled and the cause of death will be released after its completion.

Ward was a Doherty High School Graduate and a CU alum. He joined KKTV in 2006.
