Lamar's Lord finishes fifth at National Finals Rodeo

LAS VEGAS — Lamar native and Air Academy graduate Shali Lord finished her 2019 season in impressive fashion at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

"We had a great time, we had so many family and friends out there which makes it awesome and "Can Man" was a rock star," Lord said. "He was so consistent and solid and worked so good. Couldn't have asked any more from him so it was great."

Competing against the best female barrel racers in the world, Lord's composite times averaged as the fifth-best during the 10-day event, with a top run of 13.88 seconds.

In total, the pro rodeo veteran earned $22,846 during the championships, with her total runs compiling 144.73 seconds overall.

The final event of the season, Lord ends her year-long circuit with a total of $173, 391. A final number among the best of her career and one which places her ninth overall in the world standings.

"We were just thrilled, we had a great time in Las Vegas and a great season overall, it was just really special," Lord said.
