La Junta police arrest man in connection to Friday night shooting

LA JUNTA — The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced Saturday that a La Junta man has been arrested on suspicion of First-Degree Murder in connection to a shooting that occurred on Friday, March 20.

According to the CBI, La Junta police officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Santa Fe Ave. on a disturbance call late Friday night.

While officers were investigating the scene, they learned of two people being treated for gunshot wounds at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta. One of those people, a 27-year-old La Junta man, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other person, a 27-year-old La Junta woman, was treated and released, according to the CBI. These people have not been identified at this time.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect and contacted the man at an apartment in Rocky Ford. He was taken into custody without incident.

According to the CBI, that man has been identified as 20-year-old Aaron Ignacio Vigil Perez. He was taken to the Otero County Jail and is being held without bond on suspicion of Murder in the First Degree.

The CBI and the La Junta Police Department are investigating this incident. The details of the disturbance and what led to the shooting remain under investigation.
