Gun stolen from deputy's patrol vehicle recovered, man arrested

EL PASO COUNTY — On Dec. 20, a suspect stole multiple items from an El Paso County deputy's patrol car.

The patrol vehicle was parked at one of the Sheriff's Office buildings located in the 20 block of Vermijo Ave. The deputy reported his outer vest, ballistic vest, and duty belt (with a weapon) were stolen.

The following items were reported stolen:

  • Office issued outer vest carrier with badge, ballistic vest, and body worn camera
  • Office issued nylon gear
  • Office issued Glock 45 (serial number has been entered into the NCIC and CCIC database)
  • (2) Office issued Glock 45 magazines with duty ammo

On Dec. 22, CSPD officers were contacted by a citizen regarding a man in Acacia Park with a handgun. Officers contacted the man in the park and during their investigation, it was determined that the male suspect was a convicted felon and was in possession of the Glock semi-automatic pistol taken from the deputy's patrol car.

The suspect, 36-year-old Chantry Jacob Loewen, was arrested for First-Degree Criminal Trespass, a class 5 felony, as well as Possession of Weapons by Previous Offenders, also a class 5 felony, and transported to the El Paso County Jail, according to CSPD.
