COLORADO SPRINGS — A three crash at the intersection of N Academy Blvd and Bijou Street closed the area as Colorado Springs Police investigated the incident Wednesday afternoon.

According to CSPD, when officers arrived they discovered that six of the eight occupants of the vehicles were injured and needed medical treatment. All were taken to an area hospital.

CSPD said the investigation revealed an eastbound Tesla was attempting to turn northbound at the intersection when it was hit by a Ford sedan that was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Academy. The Ford then caromed into a Mercedes which was westbound on Bijou, attempting to turn onto Academy.

Officers determined the driver of the Ford, identified as 29-year-old Michael Tucker of Colorado Springs, was impaired. He was taken into custody for Vehicular Assault, DUI, and other charges, according to CSPD.

The intersection was reopened at approximately 6 p.m.
