Inmate briefly escapes El Paso County Jail

EL PASO COUNTY — An inmate briefly escaped the El Paso County Jail Sunday.

According to the Sheriff's Office, 35-year-old Steven Crist scaled a barbed-wire fence and escaped custody just before noon Sunday.

Crist was located within an hour, treated for his injuries, and booked back into the jail.

His original charges were 2nd Degree Burglary and Violation of a Restraining Order. He is now facing an additional charge of Escape with the potential for other charges.

The Sheriff's Office said the events which led to this escape are currently under investigation.
