PUEBLO — I-25 has reopened in both directions between the Eagleridge and Eden exits in Pueblo following police activity late Thursday night and early Friday morning.
According to Pueblo Police, this all began just before 10 p.m. when officers were dispatched to check on a truck driver whose employer had been unable to contact him.
Officers found the truck parked and running on the southbound off ramp from I-25 at 29th Street. They tried to contact the driver but didn't get a response.
A locksmith was called to unlock the cab and two officers went in to investigate. They found a person in a sleeping bag in the sleeper compartment who reached for his gun, which went off. No officers were injured.
Police say the officers then retreated and more officers were called in to contain the area.
Officers used a drone to get a better look in the truck and didn't see any movement, so a team of officers moved in and found the driver dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation is ongoing.
